What it does #
NAVTEX is a service that sends maritime safety messages as text. The decoder reads them from the audio.
Where to find it #
Tune 518 kHz (or 490 or 4209.5 kHz) in USB or LSB on Home. The NAVTEX card shows the messages when a station sends. Until then it says that it is listening and that each station sends in its own time slot, every 4 hours.
Controls #
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Live text | The text as it arrives. |
| Messages | The messages, newest first, with the subject in words and a count of unreadable characters. Each message is shown once in 72 hours. |
| Clear | Clears the card. |
Tips #
- Be patient: each station sends in its own time slot, every 4 hours.
- The messages are also kept in the History in the Library.
Limits #
Needs a receiver that reaches HF.
