Decoders
Morse code
Read Morse code in the CW mode, shown as a one-line strip on Home.
On this page
What it does #
The Morse decoder turns the beeps of a Morse station into text. It works from the audio you are listening to.
Where to find it #
On Home, choose the CW mode. A Morse strip appears with the text. Before a station is heard it says "Tune a Morse station: its text shows here".
Controls #
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mode CW | Turns on the strip. CWR is CW on the other sideband. |
| Copy | Copies the text. It keeps the full text. |
| Clear | Clears the strip. |
Tips #
- Tune so the tone sits at about 700 Hz, where the decoder and the narrow filters expect it.
- The strip leaves out the stray letters between words (a lone E, T or I, and runs of two), so the line is easier to read. Copy keeps the full text.
- In CW, AI noise reduction stays off because it would take out the Morse tones. See Receiver audio filters.
Limits #
Most Morse is on shortwave, so it needs a receiver that reaches HF.
