SDRSowa is for personal, non-commercial use. It is closed-source software; it is licensed to you, not sold, and its source code is not published. By installing or using SDRSowa you accept this licence. If you do not accept it, do not install or use the software.

1. What you may do

  • Install and use SDRSowa on any number of your own computers, for your personal, non-commercial use (for example as a radio hobby, for learning or for your own research).
  • Download SDRSowa, and its updates, only from its official store listing or another source the SDRSowa developer names. To share SDRSowa, send people that link.

2. What you may not do

  • Use SDRSowa commercially: in or for a business, for paid work or services, for monitoring done for others, or to make money in any other way, without written permission from SDRSowa ([email protected]).
  • Copy SDRSowa for others, or upload, mirror, re-host or otherwise distribute it (installer, portable package or program files) anywhere other than the official sources above.
  • Sell, rent or lease SDRSowa, or bundle it with any product.
  • Modify, translate, decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer SDRSowa, or try to obtain its source code, except where applicable law expressly permits this despite this restriction.
  • Remove or change copyright notices, the licence, or the protection of recordings (encryption, device binding, watermark), or help others to do so.
  • Distribute modified copies, or use SDRSowa's name, icon or artwork for another product.

3. Third-party components

SDRSowa includes third-party components that remain under their own licences (listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES and on the About page). Nothing in this licence limits your rights under those licences. SDRSowa includes no audio or video codecs: features that need one use the codecs already on your system, under their own licences.

4. Using radio lawfully

Receiving, recording, decoding, transcribing or sharing radio transmissions is regulated differently in each country. Some transmissions (for example pagers, private or encrypted services) may not be intercepted, recorded, disclosed or used. You alone are responsible for using SDRSowa in line with the laws that apply to you. SDRSowa shows notices before recording, transcription and pager decoding; accepting them does not make an unlawful use lawful.

5. Recordings and AI output

Audio recordings are stored in SDRSowa's protected format and can only be played in SDRSowa: on the device that made them and, unless you turn it off in Settings, on other devices that run SDRSowa; they carry a device identifier and an inaudible watermark. Transcriptions and translations are produced by AI models on your computer and may be wrong or incomplete; do not rely on them for safety, legal or other important decisions without checking the original audio.

Natural voices (Supertonic 3)

If you download the natural voices (the Supertonic 3 model by Supertone Inc.), SDRSowa uses them to read translations aloud. The model is licensed under the BigScience Open RAIL-M licence, a copy of which comes with SDRSowa in the licenses\Supertonic folder (LICENSE-model.txt).

The model, and anything you create with it, are subject to paragraph 5 (“Use-based restrictions”) and Attachment A of that licence. Those restrictions are part of this licence and bind you; Attachment A is reproduced in full below. If you let anyone else use the voices, or give them the model or anything made from it, you must require them to comply with these restrictions too.

Speech made with these voices is a computer voice, not the voice of the person on the radio.

The plain-language summary after Attachment A is only a reading aid. If the two differ, the original text of Attachment A applies.

Attachment A (reproduced from the BigScience Open RAIL-M licence of Supertonic 3, unchanged):

Use Restrictions

You agree not to use the Model or Derivatives of the Model:
(a) In any way that violates any applicable national, federal, state, local or international law
or regulation;
(b) For the purpose of exploiting, harming or attempting to exploit or harm minors in any
way;
(c) To generate or disseminate verifiably false information and/or content with the purpose of
harming others;
(d) To generate or disseminate personal identifiable information that can be used to harm an
individual;
(e) To generate or disseminate information and/or content (e.g. images, code, posts, articles),
and place the information and/or content in any context (e.g. bot generating tweets)
without expressly and intelligibly disclaiming that the information and/or content is
machine generated;
(f) To defame, disparage or otherwise harass others;
(g) To impersonate or attempt to impersonate (e.g. deepfakes) others without their consent;
(h) For fully automated decision making that adversely impacts an individual’s legal rights or
otherwise creates or modifies a binding, enforceable obligation;
(i) For any use intended to or which has the effect of discriminating against or harming
individuals or groups based on online or offline social behavior or known or predicted
personal or personality characteristics;
(j) To exploit any of the vulnerabilities of a specific group of persons based on their age,
social, physical or mental characteristics, in order to materially distort the behavior of a
person pertaining to that group in a manner that causes or is likely to cause that person or
another person physical or psychological harm;
(k) For any use intended to or which has the effect of discriminating against individuals or
groups based on legally protected characteristics or categories;
(l) To provide medical advice and medical results interpretation;
(m) To generate or disseminate information for the purpose to be used for administration of
justice, law enforcement, immigration or asylum processes, such as predicting an
individual will commit fraud/crime commitment (e.g. by text profiling, drawing causal
relationships between assertions made in documents, indiscriminate and
arbitrarily-targeted use).

Plain-language summary (a reading aid only; Attachment A above applies). You may not use these voices, or anything made with them:

  • (a) in any way that breaks any national, federal, state, local or international law or regulation;
  • (b) to exploit or harm children, or try to, in any way;
  • (c) to create or spread information or content that is verifiably false, with the purpose of harming others;
  • (d) to create or spread personal information that can be used to harm a person;
  • (e) to create or spread information or content, or put it in any context, without clearly and understandably saying that it is machine generated;
  • (f) to defame, disparage or otherwise harass others;
  • (g) to impersonate or try to impersonate others (for example deepfakes) without their consent;
  • (h) for fully automated decisions that harm a person's legal rights or that create or change a binding, enforceable obligation;
  • (i) for any use meant to discriminate against or harm people or groups because of their online or offline social behaviour or their known or predicted personal or personality characteristics, or that has that effect;
  • (j) to exploit the weaknesses of a group of people because of their age, social, physical or mental characteristics, to change the behaviour of someone in that group in a way that causes, or is likely to cause, that person or another person physical or psychological harm;
  • (k) for any use meant to discriminate against people or groups because of characteristics or categories protected by law, or that has that effect;
  • (l) to give medical advice or interpret medical results;
  • (m) to create or spread information to be used for the administration of justice, law enforcement, immigration or asylum processes, such as predicting that a person will commit fraud or a crime.

6. No warranty

SDRSowa is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of decoded or translated content, and non-infringement.

7. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, SDRSowa and its authors are not liable for any damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, the software, including loss of data, recordings or hardware damage. Nothing in this licence excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

8. Updates and ending this licence

SDRSowa may offer updates, which are covered by this licence unless they come with a new one. Future versions may come with different terms. This licence ends automatically if you break it; you must then stop using SDRSowa and delete your copies.

9. Governing law

This licence is governed by the law of the Republic of Poland, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rights in your country of residence.
